The problem

Overseas manufacturers are often the cheapest source for a chemical, and sometimes the only one. Buying from them directly carries risk:

• The certificate of analysis is written by the company selling you the material.
• Lots arrive at lower purity than stated, as the wrong salt form, or as a different compound.
• Quality changes from one lot to the next, even from the same supplier.
• If you do not test incoming material, you find out when a production batch fails.

What we do

We specialize in sourcing chemicals from manufacturers overseas. We buy the material for you and test every lot in our own lab before it goes to you.

• We get quotes from suppliers we have bought from before.
• If the compound is new to us, we test a small sample from the supplier before we place the full order.
• We take care of the import paperwork and customs clearance.
• If a lot fails our testing, we send you the data and take it up with the supplier.

Testing

We run these tests on each lot, as the compound requires:

Identity

FTIR against a reference spectrum. GC-MS where the compound is volatile enough.

Purity

HPLC or GC, area percent. Assay against a reference standard when one is available.

Water

Karl Fischer titration.

Residual solvents

Headspace GC, reported against USP <467> limits.

Elemental impurities

ICP-MS for the USP <232> elements.

What you receive

• The material
• Our test results, with the chromatograms and spectra
• The supplier's original certificate of analysis

Most orders are between a few grams and a few kilograms.

Testing only

If you have already bought material from a supplier and want it checked, you can send it to us.

• Email first so we can tell you how much sample we need.
• We are a small lab and do not have every instrument. If you need a specific test, ask and we will tell you whether we can run it.
• We have no NMR here. When a spectrum is needed, we send the sample out and include the result in the report.

Turnaround

• Testing: about five business days from the day the sample arrives.
• Sourcing from overseas: three to five weeks is typical, and longer if customs holds the shipment.
